Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Thursday raised the issue of increase in prices of petroleum products and also demanded issuance of production orders for the arrested members of the National Assembly.
PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar while raising the issue of increase in prices of petroleum products said that prices of petroleum products at international level are low while at the same time the government has increased the prices. He said that the government increased price of petrol by Rs5.5 per litre while the price of per litre diesel has reached Rs 132.
He said that rates of commodities, fares and other items would automatically increase with increase in price of petroleum products. He said that lives of the people are already miserable due to price hike.
The PPP leader said that as many as six members of the House are behind the bars. "Production orders of these members are not being issued. Who is pressuring the Speaker? The production orders are not being issued on the base of ill-intention," he said.
The deputy speaker who was chairing the House said, "We are not under pressure of anybody. We will not come under the pressure of opposition. The House is being run under the rules and procedure. There is not any ill-intention."
On the remarks of the deputy speaker, the PPP members stood up in protest. The PPP female members moved towards the dais of the speaker with placards inscribed with slogans demanding issuance of production orders.
Federal Minister for Energy, Umar Ayub while responding to the PPP members said if the opposition wants to discuss the price of petroleum products then if should submit a calling attention notice about it.
Later, Umar Ayub said while responding to a calling attention notice regarding award of $5.976 billion penalty against Pakistan in Reqo Diq case that he would brief the mover of the calling attention notice separately in his chamber.
As many as six bills including 'The Islamabad Capital Territory Food Safety Bill, 2019, The Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2019, The National Institute of Oceanography (Amendment) Bill, 2019, The Export Processing Zone Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2019, The Small Business Finance Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and The Cigarettes (Printing of Warning) (Amendment) Bill, 2019' were presented in the House.
The deputy speaker referred the bills to concerned standing committees for further discussion.
After the Maghrib prayer when the session met again, the PPP member Nawab Yousaf Talpur pointed out quorum. The House was found not in order and the deputy speaker adjourned the House till 11:00am today (Friday).
