The weekly inflation measured through Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the week ended July 18 for the combined income group witnessed an increase of 0.48 percent as compared to the preceding week. The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week under review in the combined income group was recorded at 264.40 points against 263.13 points on the week ended on July 11, 2019, said the SPI latest data released Thursday by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The SPI inflation on year-on-year basis witnessed an increase of 15.62 percent for the combined income group from 228.68 points on July 19, 2018 to 264.40 points on July 19, 2019.
According to PBS data, the inflation for the lowest income group with monthly income Rs 8,000 increased from 242.74 points to 243.85 points, showing growth of 0.46 percent, SPI for income group Rs 8,001-12,000 increased by 0.47 percent from 255.40 points to 256.60 points, and for income group Rs 12,001-18,000 SPI increased by 0.50 percent from 257.61 points to 258.89 points. The inflation for income group Rs 18,001-35,000 increased by 0.50 percent from 266.87 points to 268.20 points and SPI for the income group over Rs 35,000 monthly income went up by 0.47 points from 271.88 points to 273.15 points.
The SPI for the lowest income bracket with monthly income of Rs 8,000 on annual basis went up by 12.88 percent from 216.03 points to 243.85 points, for income group Rs 8,001-12,000 SPI jumped by 14.24 percent from 224.61 points to 256.60 points and for the income group Rs 12,001-18,000 it increased by 14.27 percent from 226.55 points to 258.89 points. The SPI for income group Rs 18,001-35,000 increased by 15.72 percent from 231.77 points to 268.20 points and for the income group over Rs 35,000 the SPI on annual basis went up by 18.18 percent from 231.14 points to 273.15 points.
During the week under review, average prices of 9 item registered decrease, while that of 28 items increased with the remaining 16 items'' prices remained unchanged. The items which witnessed decrease in their prices during the week under review included potatoes, bananas, red chilly, LPG cylinder, Mash pulse, rice (Irri-6), Moong pulse, wheat and wheat flour.
The items, which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, chicken, eggs, onions, sugar, lawn, garlic, cooking oil (tin), rice (Basmati broken), vegetable ghee (tin), Masoor pulse, vegetable ghee, bread, shirting, gur, mustard oil, georgette, bath soap, milk (powdered), long cloth, electric bulb, milk (fresh), cooked daal tea (prepared), curd, cooked beef, gram pulse and beef. Similarly the items which recorded no change in their prices included mutton, salt (powdered), tea (packet), cigarettes, gents sandal, gents chappal (sandal), ladies sandal, electricity charges, kerosene oil, firewood, washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
