Prices of essential kitchen items, especially nonperishable items, have witnessed an increase during this week as compared to previous week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that the prices of good quality ghee/cooking have increased by Rs 20 per kg from Rs 200 per kg to Rs 220 per kg, sugar price went up from Rs 3,300 per 50 kg bag to Rs 3,500 per bag, powdered chillies from Rs 350 per kg to Rs 380-400 per kg, turmeric from Rs 250 per kg to Rs 270 per kg, good quality tea from Rs850 per kg to Rs900 per kg, best quality wheat flour from Rs 2,000 per 40 kg to Rs 2,200 per 40 kg, lobia pulse from Rs 120-150 per kg to Rs 130-160 per kg, fine wheat flour from Rs 1,700 per 40 kg to Rs 1,800 per 40 kg, and eggs were being sold at Rs90 per dozen.
The price of powdered milk Everyday has increased from Rs750 per kg to Rs790 per kg, formula milk Lactogen price has jumped from Rs 460 to Rs 500 per pack, non-branded tea price has increased from Rs680 per kg to Rs750 per kg, normal quality diapers (Rocket) price has jumped from Rs 1,200 per pack of 64-72 pieces to Rs 1,260, while good quality diapers (Pampers) price has jumped from Rs 1,700 per pack of 64-72 pieces to Rs 2,120.
The survey noted that mutton was being sold at Rs 1,150 per kg, boneless beef at Rs 550 per kg and beef with bones was available at Rs 500 per kg. Chicken was being sold at Rs 140 against Rs 160 per kg.
Throughout the twin cities, in sharp contrast with the claims of the district price committees headed by deputy commissioners concerned, it has been observed that no retailer is following the official rate list issued by the District Price Committee Islamabad or Rawalpindi as the government has fixed onion price at Rs 50 per kg which was being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg, potatoes were being sold at Rs 35 per kg against government's fixed rate of Rs 32 per kg, and garlic at Rs 250 per kg against the government's set rate of Rs 190 per kg.
Onions' price went up from Rs 180 to Rs 200 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg in the retail market, tomatoes price went up from Rs 120 to Rs 150 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 40 against Rs 35 per kg and potatoes' price went up from Rs 125 per 5 kg to Rs 140 per 5 kg which were being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg in the retail market.
Local garlic price went up from Rs700 to Rs875 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 280 per kg against Rs 240 per kg and ginger price went up from Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,250 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 320 against Rs 280 per kg.
Bean price went up from Rs 350 per 5 kg to Rs 450 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 120 per kg, tinda price went up from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 350 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs90 per kg against Rs70 per kg, peas price remained stable at Rs 450 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 110 per kg in the retail market, and brinjal price further went down from Rs 220 to Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 55 in the retail market.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 275 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg which was being sold at Rs65 per kg against Rs75 per kg; cucumber price went up from Rs 150 to Rs 175 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 55 against Rs 50 per kg; cauliflower price went down from Rs 200 to Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 55 per kg; and cabbage remained stable at Rs 230 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs65 per kg.
Pumpkin price went down from Rs 175 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 in the retail market; tinda price went up from Rs 200 to Rs 350 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs85 per kg against Rs 50 in the retail market; okra price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5 kg which was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg in the retail market; kareela price went down from Rs 250 to Rs 175 per 5kg which are being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs60 per kg in the retail market.
Fine quality white lentil (Maash) was available at Rs 200 per kg while its normal quality was being sold at Rs 160-170 per kg; good quality grams at Rs 200 per kg and normal quality grams at Rs 160 per kg; kidney bean (Lobia) was available in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg; green gram (Moong) at Rs 155 against Rs 140 per kg; and red lentil (Masoor) was available at Rs 160 per kg.
