Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has alleged that Prime Minister Imran Khan is conspiring to take over all institutions of the country and form a one-party system. Bilawal expressed these views while addressing a press conference here at the Zardari's House on Wednesday after appearing before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team in Islamabad. "The attitude of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is not different from that of dictator General Pervez Musharraf (retd). It wants the selected National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, selected judges of the Supreme Court, selected Parliament and selected journalists. We do not accept this selected government and will launch a peaceful protest against the government on roads after Eid-ul-Fitr," he warned.
He said that it is the right of every Pakistani to take part in democracy which ensures freedom to assembly and speech. He added that there have been no emergency measures in place in Islamabad and Section 144 has not been imposed.
"I had not given a call but some of my workers and members of the National Assembly decided to come. The law does not forbid people coming with me. Despite this, the PPP workers and elected members were attacked by the government of Imran Khan," Bilawal said.
He said that these kinds of tactics are not new for his party and they would not scare the PPP workers. "We will not compromise on our principles and ideology," he added. Bilawal demanded immediate release of arrested PPP workers. "Is this state of Medina where you attack women in Ramazan?" he commented. He said that the people are realising that Khan lied on the slogan of change. "They have realised that Imran Khan is not capable of running the country. He is conspiring and using extreme force to hide his inadequacies," he alleged.
About NAB, Bilawal said that his party believes that NAB law, which was made by Pervez Musharraf, is a black law. "This institution is for taking political revenge and engineering. We believe that in our case the rule of law and standard precedence are not being used. Our right to a fair trial is being undermined," he added.
About appearing before a combined investigation team (CIT) of the NAB, Bilawal said that he was interviewed for 30 minutes and asked some questions. "The company about which I am being questioned and made a shareholder is that company that was formed when I was in school."
He said that he was made an office-bearer of the company when his father Zardari became president. "I have not been involved in day-to-day business activity which is why the NAB gave me a questionnaire which I will answer after consulting my lawyer," Bilawal explained.
Bilawal said that political and economic instability is being created due to the attitude of the NAB. About the controversy of the NAB chairman, he said that Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal (retd) should not have given the interview to a journalist. It was not a coincidence that the NAB chairman's audio scandal was aired on a news channel owned by the Prime Minister's special assistance. "This is a tactic to blackmail the NAB chairman," he claimed. "I believe that there should be an investigation. An investigation should be started from the Prime Minister and his special assistants," Bilawal added.
