Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Friday alleged that Prime Minister Imran Khan is behind the leaked video of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice Javed Iqbal (retd) as he is employing pressure tactics so that cases against the government ministers might not be opened. Speaking at a press conference here, PML-N senior Vice President and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi demanded that a special parliamentary committee should be constituted to ascertain the facts and unearth those who are behind the 'leaked' video of the NAB chairman.
Abbasi was referring to an alleged leaked video of the chairman NAB in which he (Iqbal) appeared to be objectionable. The NAB, however, rejected the reports based on the video as baseless, concocted and propaganda against its chairman by a 'blackmailer group' which aims at damaging reputation of the NAB chairman.
The former prime minister pointed out that private media news channel which aired the video is owned by a friend of the Prime Minister who is also his adviser. Abbasi said that he is not only a friend and an adviser of the prime minister, but he also raised election fund for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during July 25, 2018 general election. "Given the interview by the NAB chairman and the recent video leak, all the strains of matter go to the PM House...It is the Prime Minister who is behind the whole matter," Abbasi further alleged, adding that the NAB chairman has also said in his interview that he is under pressure from the government not to open cases against the ministers.
"This matter is now much sensitive and complex as it involves the NAB chairman, the Prime Minister, his adviser and the PM House. Now this is not an ordinary matter...a special parliamentary committee under the Rule 244-B of the National Assembly should be constituted to immediately investigate the matter and bring those involved before the nation," he said.
He said that President PML-N Shehbaz Sharif has instructed senior party leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif to move a motion in the National Assembly on Monday for formation of a special committee to investigate the matter and bring the facts before the nation.
Abbasi said that the party will also approach other opposition political parties for pressing the government to constitute the special committee.
"We believe that he [chairman NAB] is now under pressure and being blackmailed not to open the cases against the ministers," he said, adding that the NAB chairman has also said that there are some cases and if they are opened, they will result in toppling the government.
He said that the PML-N had publicly voiced its reservations against the NAB chairman. "But now the NAB chairman is in the dock. He has to answer the allegations levelled against him," he said.
He maintained that the woman appeared in the video was once wanted by the NAB in a fraud case and she was also arrested and then given bail. "Shehbaz Sharif has already said that the video and the contents within it are a personal matter of the chairman. But using a government office to coerce someone constitutes a severe criminal case," he added. He said that now it is to be revealed who was behind sending Shehbaz Sharif on a 70-day remand, adding that it should be known to the people whether it is the Prime Minister who was behind sending Shehbaz Sharif on remand.
