Mobile phones import witnessed a decline of 6.86 percent in the first 10 months (July-April) of 2018-19 as it remained $631.997 million compared to $678.575 million during the same period of last year.
Mobile phone imports in April 2019, which stood at $74.813 million, registered 0.95 percent negative growth as compared to $75.529 million imports in April 2018.
Last month's figure was 5.36 percent lower when compared to $79.049 million in March 2019. These figures were revealed in the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Mobile phones import witnessed a phenomenal growth of 19.44 percent in the fiscal year 2017-18 as it was $847.654 million compared to $709.690 million during the same period of 2016-17.
Overall telecom imports saw a decline of 8.64 percent during July-April (2018-19) when compared to the same period of last year. Total imports were recorded at $1.156 billion during this period when compared to $1.266 billion in July-April (2017-18), while registering 2.06 percent negative growth in April 2019. This figure stood at $125.130 million in April 2019 as compared to $127.768 million during March 2019.
Overall telecom imports were recorded at $1.534 billion during 2017-18 compared to $1.351 billion in 2016-17.
Other telecom apparatus imports witnessed a phenomenal decline of over 10.69 percent in July-April (2018-19) as they stood at $524.921 million against $587.768 million during the same period of last year. When compared to March 2019, other telecom apparatus imports registered 3.28 percent growth in April as they were $50.317 million compared to $48.719 million in March 2019.
Other telecom apparatus imports also witnessed growth of over 6.9 percent in 2017-18 as they were $686.432 million against $642.119 million during the same period of 2016-17.
