Darul Sehat Hospital (DSH) has urged the CEO Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) to notify the cancellation of the order regarding sealing off of hospital to safeguard the lives of hundreds of patients in dire need of medical assistance. Prof Navid Rashid Qureshi and Dr Rashid Naseem Khan, members Managing Committee Darul Sehat Hospital made this demand in a letter they wrote to the CEO of SHCC Karachi on 2nd May, 2019.
They cited that they had complied with all the immediate directives given by the CEO/SHCC. They said they assured them full cooperation for the betterment of patient care and do that in letter and spirit." SHCC sealed off Darul Sehat Hospital (DSH) on Chief Minister's Executive Order on April 24, 2019 due to death of death of 9-month-old baby Nishwa.
They appreciated the recent initiative of the government to save general public from heat-wave. They said that heat-wave would cause serious medical problems. They cited that previously they had catered thousands of patients. They alerted that public is facing with serious problems in accessing primary medical care which is their right and DSH should not be denied to provide such services. DSH MC members said that at the ER, DSH had almost 300+ patients coming for acute medical care on daily basis; they had been restricted to provide emergency care as well that was creating additional problems and even law and order situation.
Furthermore, stopping providing emergencies is absolute contrary to basic norms of the medical profession and also against the basic rights of the human beings. They stated that DSH had almost 10 patients per day; 300+ on monthly basis for the dialysis (chronic kidney diseases patients). This is life and death matter for these patients.
They sought advice to solve the problem of this dilemma; otherwise, these patients may face hardship as no other hospital would provide them with the care as they were already overburdened.
In light of grim situation, they pleaded for prompt orders to open the normal functioning of the hospital while assuring that the reports regarding compliance could be submitted on daily basis.
