The inaugural edition of Bihar Premier League (BPL) commences today (Tuesday) here at the Kakri Ground in Lyari. A total of eight teams - namely Fighters, Panthers, Warriors, Strikers, Dragons, Leopards and Kings will be seen in action during the tournament. A total of 15 matches will be played during the tournament with final to be played on May 1.
The Chief Patron of the tournament MPA Lyari Syed Abdul Rasheed believes sports events like this tournament has largely helped the youth of the area to leave unsocial activities and choose healthy activities instead. Lyari is unpopular for drugs and gang fight but Rasheed says tournaments like this would help Lyari improve its image and show its beautiful side to the world. He added that the tournament would attract youth's interest in the game of cricket and would bring forth talent from Lyari as well. Sports Promotion Company (SPC), which believes in promoting sports in underprivileged areas like Lyari as well as neglected sports and segments, is also supporting the initiative.
