At least 49 people died and 176 people got injured as a result of current rain spell across the country, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said. According to the NDMA, 15 people died in Punjab, 18 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 11 in Balochistan and five people lost their lives in Sindh.
The NDMA said that out of total 176 people, 94 got injured in Punjab, five in Balochistan, 50 in Sindh and 27 were injured in KPK. The NDMA report said that at least 117 houses have been damaged as torrential rains continued to play havoc across the country of which 31 were in Punjab, 51 in Balochistan and 34 houses were damaged in KPK.
The federal authorities have directed the provincial disaster management departments and district disaster management departments to take all precautionary measures to deal with flooding. The heavy rains coupled with thunderstorm have also damaged standing wheat crops in Sindh, Punjab and KPK.
According to the Pakistan Metrological Department, more rain-thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected at scattered places in upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions), upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Kohat and Peshawar divisions), Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
