Police on Wednesday arrested two persons including a husband for shaving off the head of his spouse after the latter "refused to dance" in front of husband's friends in Lahore's posh locality DHA Rahbar. Asma Aziz, the victim woman, in a video clip circulating on social media, claimed that her husband Mian Faisal and his friends beat her with pipes, shaved her head and threatened to strangle her when she refused to dance in front of them.
"My husband always used to torture me. He threatened to hang me naked," claimed Asma in the video. Recalling her ordeal while registering the complaint, she said when she went to the Kahna police station to register a complaint, the cops demanded money from her. She added that the police instead of registering an FIR asked her for money.
According to FIR registered on March 26, Asma's husband and two of his employees tortured her over her refusal to dance for them. "My parents were dead and I have no place to go or food to eat," she added while requesting the people for help.
In-charge Investigation at Kahna police station Saleem Shaukat told reporters that two of the suspects (husband and one of his employees) had been arrested. After the video went viral on social media, Model Town Superintendent of Police Muhammd Ali Wasim took notice of police officials' involvement in extorting money from the victim. Wasim asked the Model Town DSP to provide him a report after looking into the allegations.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi also took notice of the incident and ordered DIG Investigation Dr Inam Waheed to personally conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are punished severely under the law. Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari twitted that she had taken notice and looking into the case. "My office was informed by station house officer of Kahna police station, Lahore that police have registered an FIR and arrested both the accused and booked (them) under sections 337(v) and 506. Medical report of the woman is awaited."
