President Arif Ali on Monday said the Presidential Initiative for Artificial Intelligence and Computing (PIAIC) has the potential to generate $25 to $30 billion in a few years, which will be helpful in producing quality human resource who can actively contribute to the country's development.
The President was speaking to a panel of Business Recorder (BR)/Aaj TV, in an interview.
He said that for the PTI to run the affairs of the government, there were four points - Pakistan should be a model welfare state, State of Maddinah being the inspiration, the goals and speeches of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah especially his August 11, 1947 speech is very important and the direction given by Allama Iqbal for the dignity of Ummah and the State which is being respected globally - were set as the goals to be achieved.
To a question if he could utilize his energies to materialize the projects of social sector, the President mentioned about his imitative - Presidential Initiative for Artificial Intelligence and Computing (PIAIC) - which he launched in December last year, adding that he had discussed the initiative with Prime Minister Imran Khan who wanted him to utilize his energies for this initiative.
"This [PIAIC] was my initiative and I launched it in December 2018, which I believe has the potential to generate $25 to $30 billion in a few years...interestingly, the US President Donald Trump also launched the same programme three weeks back," he added.
He said that in the era of technology and digital awareness, the government is taking interest in quality and revolutionizing education. "Pakistan has to rise with this fourth industrial revolution," he asserted.
He said that the PIAIC will help in quality human resources who can actively participate in the development of the country, adding that it will also be helpful in boosting the social media which helped the PTI in using the platform as an effective tool for election campaign in the last general elections.
On the health sector, he said he had held meeting with chairman PEMRA [Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority] and discussed with him the important role media can play in highlighting and educating the masses on oral health, child mortality and malnutrition.
"I believe media has a responsibility and I understand that there is a provision in the PEMRA Ordinance that media can allocate time up to 10 percent to issues related to health," he added.
About the International Oral Health Day, being observed globally on March 20 every year, the President said it was his initiative, adding that when he was president of Pakistan Dental Association (PDA), he together with toothpaste manufacturers, educated around one million children in the country about oral health.
"In Pakistan, we don't have enough money to cure each and every diseases, but we do have money that we adopt the preventive measures to avoid many diseases," he said.
In 2007, he said he put a suggestion that 'Oral Health Day' should be observed to educate people about oral hygiene. "Now the day is being observed globally on every March 20," he said, adding that there is also need to educate the masses on the 'clean hands' drive which can act as prevention against many diseases.
Another major issue, he pointed out, is the denial of giving right of inherence to women, adding that there has been a detailed discussion on inheritance in the Holy Quran, but it is very unfortunate that this very right of women is being denied to them.
He said that mosque leaders can play a very effective role in educating people in this regard, adding that prayers' leaders should also educate people on cleanliness campaign, especially about the 'clean hands' drive.
