Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday said that in spite of differences, his party is ready to work with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government to address issues of terrorism, economy and foreign policy.
While taking part in debate on "The Finance Supplementary (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019" in the National Assembly, the PPP leader coming down hard on economic policies of the government said that it was acting as a deaf and blind to the plights of the poor masses, saying even the prices of medicines have been raised.
He said that PTI came into power with slogan of changing and giving relief to the poor people but it brought change by raising the prices of electricity, gas and petroleum products. He said that people are in miserable condition due to increasing inflation in the country.
He said that people of South Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh and erstwhile FATA are continuously being ignored.
The PPP leader held the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for bringing the two nuclear states against each other, saying that Pulwama attack was not carried out by non-state actors coming from any other country.
The PPP leader said it was India which has committed the naked aggression since 1971 by violating the Line of Control (LoC) and Prime Minister Modi is responsible for tension between the two countries.
He said the government of Modi has also broken all record of inhumanity in Occupied Kashmir. "Let the plebiscite take place in occupied territory so that people of Kashmir can choose their destiny," he said.
Bilawal went on to say that Indian Prime Minister Modi is known as 'Butcher of Gujrat' as he had committed genocide of Muslims in Gujrat state and now he had become 'Butcher of Kashmir.'
He also paid rich tributes to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who, he said, was founder of Pakistan's nuclear programme. Bilawal also remembered her mother Benazir Bhutto whose government started the country's missile programme.
He said the opposition parties demonstrated responsibility amid critical tensed situation between Pakistan and India, and Prime Minister Imran Khan was not declared a "security risk" for establishing peace with India.
He also took strong exception to Prime Minister's absence from an in-camera meeting of parliamentary parties' heads which was given a briefing by the Army Chief and the foreign minister on the security situation in the wake of India's aggression, saying Imran Khan kept his ego above national security at such a moment too.
He was of the view that the PTI government took risk while releasing the Indian pilot within 24 hours of his arrest after his aircraft was shot down by PAF jet fighters.
Bilawal pointed out that the opposition parties okayed National Action Plan (NAP) after terror attack on Army Public School (APS) Peshawar but he questioned whether the NAP was meant against leaders of the opposition parties and not against proscribed organisations, he said.
"What happened to the NAP? What happened to combating hate speech and reforming our curriculum? What happened of action against the Taliban and banned organisations," he said.
The PPP leader said that bringing those (extremists) to mainstream was not the policy of the Parliament and it should not be the policy of Pakistan.
He also opposed the government's decision not to attend the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting. He said that not attending the meeting was synonymous to missing the opportunity for engagement and to use the platform to get Pakistan's message to the Muslim world.
Bilawal also spoke on the resolution for Nobel Peace Prize for Imran Khan which was tabled in the National Assembly. The PPP leader said, "If the resolution was not adopted, it would have been an international embarrassment that the National Assembly voted down the resolution." He added if the resolution would have been passed in the current circumstances, Pakistan would become an international joke. "I would like to appreciate the government for taking a u-turn on this position as well," Bilawal further said.
