Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a reduction during this week past as compared to preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed, here on Saturday. The survey observed decrease in the prices of most of the vegetables, fruits and eggs while no change in the prices of non-perishable items including ghee/cooking oil, pulses, and rice was observed; however, prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and chicken witnessed an increase.
Chicken prices went up from Rs 5,500 to Rs 5,700 per 40kg which was being sold at Rs 170 against Rs 165 per kg in the retail market while chicken meat was being sold at Rs 300 against Rs 280 per kg. Eggs' prices witnessed reduction which were available at Rs 100 against Rs 110 per dozen in the wholesale market and at Rs 110 against Rs 120 per dozen in the retail market.
Tomatoes prices went down from Rs 500 to Rs 400 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 120 against Rs 150 per kg in the retail market; onion price went down from Rs 140 to Rs 130 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 35-40 per kg in the retail market; and potatoes prices remained stable at Rs 80 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 20 per kg in the retail market
Local garlic prices came down from Rs 300-400 to Rs 250-350 per 5kg which were being sold Rs 65-85 against Rs 70-95 per kg in the retail market; Chinese garlic price went down from Rs 525 to Rs 475 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 130 against Rs 145 per kg in the retail market; and local ginger price went down from Rs 750 to Rs 700 per 5kg, which was being sold at Rs 170 against Rs 180 per kg in the retail market.
Capsicum price went down from Rs 475 to Rs 400 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 100 against Rs 120-125 per kg in the retail market; yam (arvi) price went down from Rs 250 to Rs 220 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 60 against Rs 70 per kg in the retail market; carrot price went down from Rs 150 to Rs 130 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 35 against Rs 40 per kg in the retail market; radish price remained stable at Rs 120 per 8 kg pack which was being sold at Rs 25 per kg in the retail; and peas price went down from Rs 175 to Rs 150 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 40-45 per kg against Rs 50 per kg in the retail market
Cucumber price went down from Rs 175 to Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 40 against Rs 45 per kg in the retail market; cauliflower price went down from 150 to Rs 130 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 35 against Rs 40 per kg in the retail market, cabbage price went down from Rs 100 to Rs 80 per 5 kg which was being sold at Rs 20 against Rs 25 per kg in the retail market.
Okra price down from Rs 475 to Rs 430 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 120 against Rs 130 per kg in the retail market; brinjal price went down from Rs 180 to Rs 160 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 45 per kg in retail market; and ridge gourd (tori) price remained stable at Rs 400 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 100 per kg in the retail market. Pumpkin price went down from Rs 330 to Rs 300 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 70 against 75-80 per kg; tinda price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 50 per kg in the retail market; beans price went down from Rs 350 to Rs 250 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 75 against Rs 85 per kg in the retail market, bitter gourd (karela) price went down from Rs 600 to Rs 550 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 160 against Rs 170 per kg in the retail market.
Prices of all the major pulses also witnessed no change as fine quality white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 170 per kg while normal quality at Rs 135 per kg; good quality grams at Rs 170 per kg and its normal quality at Rs 130 per kg; kidney bean (lobia) in the range of Rs 130-170 per kg; green gram (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg; and red lentil (Masoor) at Rs 130 per kg. Wheat flour price remained stable at Rs 785 per 20kg bag,
Ghee/cooking oil prices also witnessed no change as normal quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 150 per kg/litre pack, while best quality ghee/cooking oil was being sold at Rs 1,030 per 5 kg/litre tin, while prices of sugar, formula milk Nido/Everyday and packed spices also remained stable.
Fruit prices witnessed a declining trend as Pakistan's Kala Kolo apple was available at Rs 140 against Rs 150 per kg; Iranian Kala Kolo at Rs 160 against Rs 170 per kg; golden apple at Rs 100 against Rs 110 per kg; white apple at Rs 80 against Rs 90 per kg; and Ambri apple at Rs 75 against Rs 85 per kg. Good quality local banana was being sold at Rs 80 against Rs 90 per dozen; normal quality banana in the range of Rs 50-60 against Rs 60-70 per dozen while Indian banana was being sold at Rs 170 against Rs 190 per dozen; good quality guava was available at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and normal quality guava at Rs 40-50 per kg against Rs 50-55 per kg.
Best quality oranges were being sold at Rs 145 per dozen against Rs 160 per dozen, normal kinnow in the range of Rs 50-80 per dozen while pomegranate at Rs 175 per kg against Rs 190 per kg and Sapodilla (Cheeko) at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 125 per kg. Papaya was available at Rs 110 per kg and strawberry at Rs 250 per kg against Rs 300 per kg.
