Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has declared that Pakistan Railways is following emergency situation laws, saying the entire country is prepared to respond to India and the next 72 hours are crucial.
Talking to journalists here on Wednesday after attending National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways, which met under the chairmanship of Mohammad Moeen Wattoo, Sheikh appreciated the action taken by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to shoot down two of Indian fighter jets.
The railways minister said that Pakistan is 'on alert' and united against any cross-border attack. "The PAF is regarded as one of the best air forces in the world," the minister said.
He said India still remembers M M Alam for his swift action in 1965 Indo-Pak war for striking down five of its aircraft within 60 seconds.
Taking on Indian PM Narendra Modi, Rashid said he has pushed India into a fire just for the sake of wining polls. He warned BJP government to avoid escalation, else situation can go worst.
Earlier the Standing Committee on Railways unanimously paid rich tribute to Pakistan Armed Forces for retaliating Indian aggression in which two Indian MG-21 aircraft were hit down. The committee said that retaliation was indispensable to stop Indians from such aggression in future.
The committee discussed all the budgetary proposals of Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of M/o Railways for the financial year 2019-20 one by one and endorsed them accordingly. The committee directed Pakistan Railways to ensure timely completion of projects as it has been observed that unnecessary delays escalate the cost of the projects and resultantly cause huge losses to the national kitty.
The panel appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan Railways for initiating remedial measures for the revival of the national institution in order to make it a profitable entity. The committee assured to extend full support to Pakistan Railways in resolving its issues and directed that the ministry may come up with the proposals so that committee could take them at appropriate forum for their amicable solution.
Earlier, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed briefly apprised the committee of the initiative taken by the present management to bring railways back on track and problems being faced by it in this regard. He said that the management has decided to complete 20 railways projects during the ongoing financial year.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Muhammad Bashir Khan, Arbab Amir Ayub, Amjad Ali Khan, Tahir Iqbal, Aftab Jahangir, Ch Muhammad Hamid Hameed, Ali Pervaiz, Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jilani, Ramish Lal, Abdul Wasay and Nusrat Wahid, and senior officials of Ministry for Railways.
