PTI has weakened Pakistan's economy in past five months, accuses Saad Rafique

Former Railways Minister Saad Rafique accused the government of weakening the foundations of Pakistan's economy since it came into power five months ago.

Speaking to the media outside an accountability court on Saturday, Saad said that in these five months, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has weakened the economy and has also troubled the citizens. He said that the government will not complete its five years tenure.

Earlier, an accountability court extended Saad's and his brother Salman Rafique's physical remand by 7 days in the Paragon Housing Society scam case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team presented the Rafique brothers before the accountability court as their remand ends today. The representatives from NAB requested the court to extend the remand of the brothers. The defence counsel opposed the bureau's request.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court accepted NAB's plea and extended the physical remand of the brothers till January 26, local media reported.

The bureau has accused the brothers of launching an illegal housing scheme Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd in 2005 on the basis of forged and fabricated documents with chief executive of Paragon City Nadeem Zia and others.

NAB has also asserted that both Saad and Salman had received money from the housing society. NAB revealed that both brothers had admitted that they took millions of rupees as commission.
