Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has said that Pakistan is facing serious economic challenges and urged former parliamentarians to play their role for addressing these challenges by giving their suggestions in the standing committees of the house as special invitees.
"Former parliamentarians are the asset and they can contribute and play role in the interests of the country by setting aside political differences and working together to address the economic challenges and ensure socio-economic development. Their role and contributions are very important for institutional building and to uplift the image of Pakistan in comity of nations," said the speaker while addressing a meeting of Former Parliamentarians Forum here at Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) on Thursday.
The speaker National Assembly said, "We should utilise the experience and wisdom of the former parliamentarians to harmonise the relations with other nations." He urged the former parliamentarians to work in the public interest beyond their political affiliations.
He said that the former parliamentarians have experience and expertise and they would participate in the proceedings of the standing committees of the Parliament as special invitees and give useful suggestions.
The speaker also stressed the need to utilise the experience of the former parliamentarians to establish villages for special persons in every provincial capital which will cater the needs of orphans and disabled persons. "These villages for the special persons will have hospital, schools, and vocational institutions," he added. He said that establishment of villages for special persons would start from erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
Asad Qaiser said the skills of these seasoned parliamentarians will be of great importance to make the Parliament proactive, vibrant and up to the expectation of masses. He also suggested that the support of these parliamentarians will be required for proper functioning of the standing committees and other parliamentary committees of the house. He assured to strengthen Former Parliamentarians Forum so that they can actively take part in the promotion of democracy in the country.
The speaker thanked Zamurd Khan, Patron-In-Chief Pakistan Sweet Homes and convener of Former Parliamentarian Forum, for successfully bringing former parliamentarians on one platform and organising the first meeting of this forum.
Zamarud Khan thanked the speaker for his support to this forum. He said, "We would leave no stone unturned to serve the country and strengthen the democratic institutions."
Former Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who took this initiative in his tenure for gathering former parliamentarians at one forum on the application of Zamurd Khan, said that all former parliamentarians should play their role in the development of the country without any political and provincial affiliation. "We should facilitate and give honour and dignity to the former parliamentarians," he said.
