The United Nations (UN) must play its due role in resolving the Kashmir issue as per its own passed resolutions to protect almost 1.75 billion people living in South Asia from a nuclear clash between India and Pakistan.
The participants of various rallies held here on Tuesday on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day reminded the UN and global community of their commitment with the people of Jammu and Kashmir back in 1948. The rallies were organised by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, Youth Forum for Kashmir, Jamiat-ul-Ansar, civil society and other religious and political parties.
People belonging to different stratum of society formed a human chain in Islamabad at famous D-Chowk to express solidarity with oppressed Kashmiris.
A one minute silence was observed at 10am to pay homage to the martyrs of the liberation struggle of occupied Kashmir. All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leadership was invited as special guests to address the rallies who highlighted the plight of the Kashmiris and thanked the people of Pakistan for their support with the people of Kashmir.
"Worst human rights abuses being perpetrated by India just because Kashmiris want right of self-determination; we are here to express support to Kashmiris and all those who love freedom against Indian oppression".
Addressing a rally organised by civil society and the local leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which was attended by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur.
The minister addressing the participants said that India was committing genocide of Kashmiri people in Indian Occupied Kashmir under the guise of democracy.
"Pakistan will continue its support to Kashmiris till achievement of their right to self-determination," the minister said while addressing a ceremony to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day at Islamabad's D-Chowk.
He urged the international community to play its positive role in realisation of right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
The minister said that the report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Jammu and Kashmir and the UK's All Parties Parliamentary Kashmir Group (APPKG) have unveiled the decades long atrocities by India in occupied Kashmir.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of students hailing from various colleges, schools and people belonging to various walks of the society.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is being observed on Tuesday to reiterate whole-hearted support of the Pakistani nation to just struggle of Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination under UN resolutions.
A one minute silence was observed throughout the country to pay homage to the martyrs of the liberation struggle.
Addressing another event organized at Lok Virsa titled "Kashmir Cultural Festival" to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur said that Indian brutalities are being exposed before the world despite strict restrictions on the media in Indian held Kashmir.
He said the government and people of Pakistan pay salute to the Kashmiris for their struggle and freedom movement.
