Saying that the government was not serious in Nai Gaj Dam’s construction, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar told Finance Minister Asad Umar that their love for the country had lessened.

The CJP summoned the finance minister during the hearing of the Nai Gaj Dam construction case on Tuesday. After Umar appeared before the court, the chief justice said that the government was not serious and the bureaucracy does not have the passion to work.

The finance minister replied that the issue of the dam was presented in the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and the matter was forwarded to the cabinet, local media reported. At this the CJP remarked that Umar's government has no coordination.

The minister assured the SC that the dam construction will be discussed during an ECNEC session on January 25. The apex court directed the minister to inform it about the decisions taken after the ECNEC meeting. The court then adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Umar lauded the chief justice's efforts regarding the construction of dams and said that he will always be remembered for his efforts.
