National Assembly Tuesday passed a condolence resolution to pay tribute to Muhammad Ayaz Soomro who passed away after protracted illness during the last week of March this year. MNA Shazia Marri moved the resolution in the House while all other members supported it.
According to the resolution, "This House is deeply grieved over the demise of veteran lawmaker, committed political worker and colleague Muhammad Ayaz Soomro." The resolution also said the House recognizes his unmatched services for the restoration and sustenance of democracy in Pakistan. The House paid tribute to his decades of sacrifices given during his political struggle against tyrannical dictatorships.
The resolution also extended "deepest sympathies to his family, loved ones, his constituents, and to the scores of other across Pakistan who mourn his irreparable loss." Speaking on the floor of the House, Leader of Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah said Soomro started politics at the age of 18 and rendered great sacrifices for restoration of democracy in the country.
"Soomro was a political worker of Pakistan Peoples Party and played a vital part for democracy in the country," he said, adding his struggle for the rule of law and democracy would be remembered forever.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that late Ayaz Soomro came from a humble background, but he made his mark in the politics through struggle.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab also paid homage to the late legislator for his struggle for the rule of law and democracy in the country.
PkMAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai said the political workers like Ayaz Soomro and the judges who refused oath under the dictatorships are heroes of the democracy.
Aftab Ahmad Sherpao, Asia Nasir, Shaikh Salahuddin, Ayesha Syed, GG Jamal, Abdul Sattar Bachani, Chaudhry Bashir Virk, Nawab Yusuf Talpur, Khalil George, Shazia Marri and others also paid tribute to the late lawmaker.
