The Lahore High Court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a petition challenging the closure of provincial Health development centre in Lahore along with its 31 sub institutes working in government hospitals for training of doctors and nurses. Young Doctors Association president, Dr Shahzad Shams through his counsel Sheraz Zaka submitted the closure of centre and its 31 sub institute resulted in redundancy of trained staff.
He said that permanently closure of these institution the doctors and nurse would be deprived of training to tackle the endemic diseases like cholera, burn, dengue fever/virus and other diseases. He asserted that without the approval of services and general administration the provincial health development centre cannot be closed. He therefore prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from closing the institutes.
Earlier in reply on behalf of the Punjab government it was stated that during the first six months of 2017, 473 doctors and nurses were given training to deal with patients on emergency mattes. The reply further elaborated that the provincial health development centre was still functioning and the training of the staff including doctors and nurses.
