Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have submitted separate adjournment motions in the National Assembly Secretariat against amnesty scheme announced by the Prime Minister. An adjournment motion was submitted by PPP MNAs Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr Nafissa Shah, Shazia Marri, Nawab Yousaf Talpur and others in the National Assembly Secretariat on Monday. It was said in the motion that amnesty scheme would protect the money of corrupt people and money launders which is not acceptable. The amnesty scheme was introduced without the approval of the Parliament and at a time when the tenure of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is ending.
The motion further described that Financial Action Task Force (FATF) also expressed its concern over the scheme and said that such schemes would affect the war against terrorism and corruption. This is a matter of urgent public importance and, therefore, should be discussed immediately on the floor of the House in the best national interest.
Legislators belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat against the amnesty scheme announced by the PML-N government. The motion was submitted by PTI MNAs Shireen Mazaari, Asad Umer and Munazza Hussain and others in the National Assembly Secretariat. The motion said that the amnesty scheme aims to protect tax evaders, money launderers and assets obscurers.
Introducing the scheme 45 days before the government completes its term and two weeks prior to presenting national budget is an attack on democratic process, added the motion. The PTI has demanded to discuss the amnesty scheme while postponing the usual agenda of the House.
The party has also submitted an adjournment motion to hold discussion over situation in Occupied Kashmir. It states that the government has failed to present a comprehensive policy over the matter.
