ISLAMABAD: Under Prime Minister’s initiative of Green Pakistan, National Highway Authority (NHA) has launched a campaign through which different types of trees have been planted all along motorway projects of NHA as well as the existing NHA network. Total targeted plantation was 187,000 plants during 100 days, however, due to weather constraint, the plantation drive was stopped by 20 Oct . 76,105 plants were planted, now plantation will resume in February as weather permits, an official of NHA told APP on Wednesday.
He said that other initiatives taken during plantation drive were beatification of Golra round about, plantation on M-1,M-2 and airport road junction Islamabad through M-2 concession. NHA and Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw Forest Department have planned through an MOU plantation on major national highways from February 2019,he said.
NHA with the assistance of Ministry of Climate Change under 10 billion tree campaign will plant 2.6 million trees along existing national highways network and on all upcoming mega projects, he said.
Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw Agriculture department has agreed to provide NHA with 11,000 Olive trees which will be planted in different NHA compounds and service in February 2019,he said.
Moreover under Clean and Green Pakistan initiative, NHA has earmarked on campaign for cleaning of road networks by removing wild growing grass, bushes shrubs, removal of garbage and debris from right of way of NHA roads. Under the drive, the NHA has completed cleanliness of over 4300 kilometers of road length.
