ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Railways is planning to shutdown access of populous places along side track to prevent accidents at the pathways of trains.

“In this regard, on the directives of Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, instructions have been issued to all Divisional Superintendents of Railways,” an official in the Ministry told APP.

He said no educational institutions, small industrial units or play grounds will be built on railway land along rail tracks around 1,700 km.

“Railways Divisional Superintendents have issued notices to schools and industrial units owners to remove their entrances from these areas,” he said and adding legal action would be taken against violators.

The official said if the Divisional Superintendents failed to implement orders, they would be held responsible.

He said the ministry has warned people living near tracks to remain conscious while walking along railway tracks besides restricting activities of children.

He further informed that strict action would be taken against encroachers who grabbed railway land.

“We will plant trees on both sides of the tracks," he said praising the incumbent government initiates for healthy environmental.
