An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday granted 14-day physical remand of Imran Ali, main accused in Zainab's rape and murder case. The suspect Imran will be produced before the court again on 08th February. He was presented before the Special Court Judge Sajjad Ahmed amid high security. The court granted 14-day physical remand on the request of police so that the accused could be interrogated for his alleged involvement in other similar cases. A prosecutor told the court that 24-year-old suspect used to lure children using eatables and subsequently subject them to rape and murder. He added that his DNA sample matched with those collected in eight cases in Kasur including late seven-year-old Zainab.
During the proceedings, accused Imran also confessed to rape and murder of Zainab which had sparked fury across Pakistan with two people killed in riots in Kasur. Imran was earlier arrested during a preliminary investigation on January 9 but was released after he 'suffered' heart attack. He had fled to Pakpattan after Zainab's case was reported and then left for Arifwala before returning to hometown days later.
Police detained six alleged accomplices of Imran, out of which four were revealed to have helped him hide in their houses while one agreed to become an approver. Zainab was raped and murdered after being abducted on January 04. Her body was found from a heap trash on January 9 in Kasur when her parents were in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
