Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday held a meeting with former premier Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence and discussed the party's future course of action in the wake of the country's overall political situation and forthcoming Senate elections with focus on Balochistan situation.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, federal ministers Khawaja Saad Rafique, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Ahsan Iqbal, Awais Leghari and Marriyum Aurangzeb, Maryam Nawaz, Miftah Ismail and Pervaiz Rasheed of the PML-N, allied-Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, former Balochistan chief minister Abdul Malik and Minister for Maritime Affairs Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo of allied-National Party Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah of the PML-N and others also attended the meeting. PM Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider was also present.
The PML-N leaders and allies discussed the party's future programmes including mass contact drive, Senate polls and other challenges. The meeting took place a day after the joint opposition public protest hosted by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) against the killings in Model Town.
Moreover, Nawaz Sharif held another meeting on Balochistan situation. It was decided that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and its political allies including PKMAP make efforts against all 'undemocratic' and 'unconstitutional' actions in Balochistan. The participants remarked that Balochistan is the province where political stability was needed the most. Once the stability was achieved through a reconciliation process, political turmoil would be brought to an end overnight.
The sources said Nawaz told the participants that the Balochistan political issue needs to be taken seriously. At the meeting, detailed discussions were held to find out reasons of recent happenings. The meeting discussed in detail the no-confidence motion against CM Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri which was supported by some PML-N members and Zehri was forced to resign while Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, hailing from the PML-Q, was elected as the new chief minister.
The MPAs from Balochistan shared that the movement was held without bringing it to the notice of the parliamentarians. Those involved in the motion never mentioned that they were unhappy under the leadership of the ex-CM Zehri.
