Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar Saturday said that despite limited resources and powers Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is making all efforts to resolve issues of the country's largest city. During his visit to GTex International B2B Textile Machinery Brands Expo on Saturday at Karachi Expo Centre, he urged the Sindh government to come forward and support the KPC to resolve all civic issues.
"Fire brigade department is facing its worst time and does not even have funds to purchase fire extinguishing foam and uniforms," he said, adding the city had become a garbage dumping station. The current situation of the city was due to mismanagement by Pakistan Peoples' Party and Sindh government as they appointed administrators to run city affairs, he said.
Appreciating efforts of Global Enterprise, he said GTex Expo was very encouraging for business opportunities and industries in the city were reviving. Meanwhile, GTex International B2B Textile Machinery Brand Expo continued on its second day here at Expo Centre Karachi. Former Advisor to Prime Minister Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig formally opened the expo by cutting the ribbon on Saturday.
During his visit, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig met national and foreign delegates, exhibitors and exchanged his views with them. Later talking to media person, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig said that Pakistan's textile exports were of $14 billion till two years back but it was now shrinking to $11 billion due to heavy taxes and stiff competition in the world market.
"Pakistan is very potential country with regard to textile machinery imports. Pakistan's textile products are very famous in Turkey and GTex like expos will further boost this trade," he added. He said Bangladesh would be a challenge for Pakistan's products in textile sector in coming days for which local industry should do planning from now."
CEO Global Enterprise Mujib R Siddiqi said GTex was receiving enormous response from local and international visitors and expo will continue till today (Sunday). This expo is organised by Global Enterprise as its flagship event. Director Sohail Aziz, General Manager Ghousia, Zohaib Mujib, Naeemuddin of United Machinery and other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.
