The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) spokesperson, strongly refuted a news item titled 'JI leader accuses WAPDA of corruption' published a day before in Business Recorder, has said that the allegations levelled therein by the JI leader are baseless and devoid of facts.
The spokesperson has made it clear that WAPDA, being an organisation of national stature, always adheres to the rules, regulations and best practices in a transparent yet competitive manner for awarding contracts of its projects, and the same were also observed during the process for award of transmission line contracts for Golen Gol Hydropower Project.
The spokesperson said that construction of transmission line for Golen Gol Hydropower Project was divided into two packages. The contracts were awarded through a transparent and international competitive bidding for Package-I in the end of 2013 and for Package-II in early 2014.
Regarding category of the contractor, the spokesperson made it clear that international criterion for construction of such transmission line was considered for award of these contracts as per the rules of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
The spokesperson concluded that the accusation made by the JI leader during his press conference about WAPDA's corruption for construction of this transmission line is, therefore, unfair and uncalled for.-PR
