Missing persons: SHC seeks comments from Rangers, police and government
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued notices to Director General Rangers Sindh, Inspector General Sindh and home secretary, directing them to submit their respective comments on the petitions seeking whereabouts of missing persons. SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, took up the petitions filed for the recovery of missing men Amir Hussain and Rehan Akhtar.
Mst Qurat-ul-Ain, the wife of missing Amir Hussain, submitted that her spouse was picked up by the personnel of law enforcement agencies on 26th August 2016 from their home in Karachi's Jaffer Tayyar Society in Malir. She added that her husband that the personnel also took valuable items including mobile phones and a laptop along with her husband, adding that the family was not being informed about his whereabouts since the day of his arrest.
Separately, Nadeem Akhtar, the father of missing Rehan Akhtar, informed the court that his son was a servant in a private company and never involved in any criminal activity. He added that Rehan was at home located in Gulbahar area on 21st July 2016 when the Rangers' personnel forcefully entered and took him away. The whereabouts of my son is unknown since the day of his arrest, the petitioner added.
The petitioners alleged that their relatives are in the custody of law enforcers but they are not disclosing it. Citing DG Rangers Sindh, IGP Sindh and home secretary as respondents, the petitioners prayed the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court.
