Renowned lawyer and chairman Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) Dr Rana Shamim Ahmed Khan has been appointed the Chief-Judge of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). As per a notification issued by the prime minister's office, "the Prime Minister/Chairman Gilgit-Baltistan Council has been pleased to appoint Dr Rana Shamim as Chief-Judge of the Supreme Appellate Court".
Rana Shamim commenced practising law in 1983 in Karachi. He was elected Vice President Supreme Court Bar Association in 2005 and remained member Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) from 2010-2015. In 2007, he was appointed as the Additional Judge of the Sindh High Court (SHC) for a year. Earlier, he served as Prosecutor General and acting Advocate General Sindh.
He also served as legal advisor to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and British Deputy High Commission at Karachi and rendered service as panel legal advisor to the Consulates General of the Netherlands, Italy, United States, Spain, France, Canada and some other European countries.
