Former minister in Sindh caretaker government, Iqbal Dawood, who is facing corruption charges in a multibillion Employees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) scam, approached the Sindh High Court against restriction on his travelling abroad. A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar issued notices to the interior secretary, Federal Investigation Agency's director general, and director of Immigration & Passports to file their respective comments by July 13.
Petitioner, Iqbal Dawood, who served as director on EOBI Investment Board, was one of the prime suspects in EOBI scam. The petitioner's counsel submitted that his client was arrested for his alleged involvement in a case pertaining to purchase of four acres of land for EOBI scheme at exorbitant price but he was later released on bail by the trial court. He submitted that the petitioner had nothing to do with the offence as he was not the beneficiary of the land deal. The petitioner told the judges that Iqbal was suffering from blood cancer and needs treatment abroad; however, due to travel ban he could not move to have treatment abroad.
