Additional district and sessions Judge (ADSJ) Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen were sentenced to one year imprisonment on Tuesday by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Tayyaba torture case.

Along with one year jail time for the couple, Justice Aamer Farooq of IHC also slapped a fine of  Rs 50,000 each for torturing the child maid, local media reported. The couple was then arrested from outside the courtroom.

The IHC had reserved its verdict on March 28 after hearing the arguments at large from both sides.

IHC reserves judment in Tayyaba torture case

Tayyaba torture case came into light in 2016 when pictures of the then 10-year old were uploaded on social media, with people claiming that the minor girl was being subjected to severe torture by her employers. A medical report of Tayyaba revealed that there were 20 torture marks on her body.

Tayyaba's family had forgiven their daughter's employers. However, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice last year in January and referred the case to IHC for conducting trial against the judge and his wife.
