Inzamam believes Pakistan has better players than Fawad Alam

Pakistan cricket chief selector Inzamam ul Haq has hit out against all those criticizing him for dropping domestic cricket superstar Fawad Alam for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England.

The former captain of Pakistan team said that he has seen 'better players in the last three years' - a decision which has irked the cricket fans, leading many to vent their anger on social media. Inzamam has said that Saad Ali was selected in place of Fawad, who has performed better in domestic cricket.

"Fawad is an outstanding player but in the last three years there are others at the top of the list," Inzamam told ESPNcricinfo. "We got him here in the nets but we found Saad Ali to be better and the decision to prefer Saad was unanimous, with input from all the coaching staff and captain,” he said.

‘Justice for Fawad Alam’ becomes Pakistani cricket fan’s latest agenda

“Fawad is a good player and we obviously can't ignore his career average, which is why he was brought into the camp. During my tenure, I have given 12 to 14 players an opportunity and none of them have disappointed us. If you look back in the past three seasons, there are players who have scored more runs than Fawad,” he added.

Inzamam was of the view that Fawad should have been selected before, as he have better players in his tenure as the chief selector."I am not sure why Fawad wasn't picked in the past before me but if you ask me about my tenure as chief selector, I have seen better players," he said.

Cricket fans had called for justice for the domestic cricket superstar after his non-selection for the upcoming tour. Fawad, who has left no stone unturned by performing at the domestic level for quite some time added with maintaining extraordinary fitness levels, still remains a hot favorite among fans.

Pakistan, under the leadership of skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, will play against Ireland, which will be their first-ever Test against Pakistan from May 11 to May 15 in Dublin. Pakistan will then play two Tests against England at Lord’s from May 24 to May 28 and Headingley from June 1 to 5.
