SC appoints Secretary Information as member of committee formed to select chairman PEMRA

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Monday directed the federal government to appoint Secretary Information Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera as member of the committee formed to select Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman, instead of the information minister.
A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar issued the directive while hearing a case in connection with the Media Commission report.
During the course of proceedings, Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar informed the bench that a seven-member committee, comprising prominent journalists and the Pakistan Broadcasting Association chairman, had been formed by the government to select the PEMRA chairman.
He further apprised the bench that the committee would nominate a three-member panel to select the chairman within three weeks.
