LAHORE: Punjab Agriculture department has advised farmers to apply recommended poison on cotton seed before cultivation so that crop can be protected from juice sucking insects.

A spokesman of the agriculture department said on Tuesday that whitefly was a main cause behind the spread of leaf curl virus in cotton crop.

There were chances of attack of juice sucking insects on the crop at initial stage and to counter it farmers carry out spray in beginning which he added not only increase the production expenses but also destroy the cotton friendly insects.

The Spokesman said that by applying poison on cotton seeds not only help to control juice sucking insects but viruses as well for at least 35 to 40 days.
