Hungary's March CPI rises to 2.0pc y/y

Published April 10, 2018 Updated April 10, 2018 07:29am

BUDAPEST: Hungarian headline inflation came in at 2.0 percent year-on-year in March after a 1.9 percent annual reading in February, data showed on Tuesday, matching analyst forecasts.

Prices rose by 0.1 percent from the previous month, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said. Core inflation was 2.5 percent year-on-year, up from 2.4 percent in February, it said.

The central bank targets 3 percent headline inflation with a tolerance band of plus/minus one percentage point.

"There were no substantial price moves in March. Food prices, as in previous months, were higher, but that is mostly down to price hikes last autumn. Seasonal fruit and vegetable prices also rose, as is normal.

"Fuel prices, meanwhile, dropped both in annual and monthly terms. The balance of those two factors is this very little overall change."
