KARACHI: Minister of State for Petroleum Dr. Musadiq Malik on Monday assured the Karachi business community to supply additional 32 mmcfd gas to industry.
Speaking after a meeting with BMG leadership and Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) office-bearers, he said that Karachi industries would be provided an additional gas supply of 32 mmcfd and for this purpose he would take permission from the cabinet personally by this week.
Moreover, he said that gas production had decreased but the gas supply to the low gas areas would be increased by 22 to 23 percent and for this purpose, 10 mmcfd of additional gas would be acquired from the Sawan gas field.
He said that the government in order to address the low gas production issue would offer incentives to the existing oil and gas companies to operate on alternative energy; adding that they would take some time to resolve the big challenges of the Karachi industries as the incumbent government had not evolved any policy yet.
Furthermore, he said that imports were increasing to meet the growing energy needs, due to a reduction in energy reserves, adding that the price of imported energy was determined as per the international market price but the government was striving to reduce it at the rationale level.
