KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 244,943 tonnes of cargo comprising 133,470 tonnes of import cargo and 111,473 tonnes of export cargo during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday.
The total import cargos of 133,470 tonnes comprised of 80,978 tonnes of containerized cargo; 12,056 tonnes of Bulk Cargo; 14,093 tonnes of wheat; 3,994 tonnes of yellow soy bean; and 22,349 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargos of 111,473 tonnes comprised of 89,524 tonnes of containerized cargo; 12,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo; 3,204 tonnes of clinkers; 6,445 tonnes of rice and 100 tonnes of bulk cargo.
As many as 6,130 containers comprising of 1,831 containers of import and 4,299 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 538 of 20’s and 503 of 40’s loaded while 01 of 20’s and 143 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,377 of 20’s and 763 of 40’s loaded containers while 154 of 20’s and 621 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eleven vessels OOCL LE Havre, OEL Kedarnath, RU YI Song, Ionic United, SCF Provider, Maistros, Southern Wolf, Guenther Schultte, Thorswind, Diamond Star II and Cielo DI Cagliri carrying tankers, containers, general cargo, and soy bean seeds currently at the berths.
There were eight ships namely BW Krondorg, Eleen Armonia, Emirates Zanzibar, Northern Dexterity, MOL Generosity, Carp, New Wavelet, and OOCL LE Havre sailed out to sea during the reported period.
