ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Monday said that despite challenges, Pakistan’s western borders along Afghanistan are secure and the armed forces are prepared to meet any situation.

The army chief, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated this, while briefing a delegation comprising members of Parliamentary Kashmir Committee, and the defence committees of the Senate and the National Assembly, who visited the general headquarters, Rawalpindi, on Monday.

It stated that the delegation was given a detailed briefing on the security environment including situation on the borders and Pakistan’s Army efforts for peace and stability.

The delegation had an exhaustive interactive session with the COAS.

While interacting with the delegation, the army chief said that Pakistan armed forces, with the support of the nation, have achieved unprecedented successes in the fight against terrorism and bringing normalcy in the country.

“COAS said that due to our timely steps for western zone border management, Alhamdolillah today despite challenges Pakistan’s borders are secure and we are prepared to meet any situation,” it added.

Alluding to the benefits of regional connectivity, the army chief highlighted the importance of restoration of peace in Afghanistan for sustainable development of the region. “COAS reiterated Pakistan Army’s support and commitment to Kashmir cause and people of Kashmir. The world must know that without peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue, peace and stability will remain illusive,” the army chief was quoted by the ISPR as having said.

It further stated that the session concluded with the resolve to continue the struggle against violent extremism through a synergetic, whole-of-the-nation approach.

The briefing was attended by leader of the house in the Senate Wasim Shehzad, Chairman Parliamentary Kashmir Committee Shehryar Khan Afridi, PPP’s senior leaders including Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, and Palwasha Khan; PML-N’s Mushahid Hussain Sayed, who is also chairman Senate Defence Committee, Riaz Hussain Pirzada; JUI-F’s MNA Salahuddin Ayubi, Senator Talha Mahmood; and other members of the three committees.
