ISLAMABAD: The management of the Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd (SSGCL) regional office Quetta recovered Rs 144.10 million from 13,078 consumers in Balochistan, where unaccountable for gas (UfG) ratio is high.
During audit of the SSGCL, regional office Quetta of the year 2009-10 to 2012-13, it was observed that 18,611 cases of domestic theft of gas were detected during the period July 2009 to June 2013 and claims of Rs 159.62 million were raised.
No efforts were made or prescribed procedures were followed for recovery, which resulted in non-recovery of the amount.
As per procedure of the recovery department, SSGCL, "when any customer is found involved in the theft of gas through tempering in the meter, the recovery is charged by accessing the value of gas stolen or any other appropriate action can be taken."
