KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 98,404 tonnes of cargo comprising 73,736 tonnes of import cargo and 24,668 tonnes of export cargo including 3,603 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargos of 73,736 tonnes comprised of 37,232 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,305 tonnes of bulk cargo; 5,216 tonnes of soya been seed; 5,736 tonnes of sugar and 24,247 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 24,668 tonnes comprised of 9,073 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,935 tonnes of barite lumps; and 12,660 tonnes of clinkers.

As many as 4,511 containers comprising of 2,827 containers of import and 1,624 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 689 of 20’s and 1,060 of 40’s loaded while 08 of 20’s and 05 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 185 of 20’s and 159 of 40’s loaded containers while 139 of 20’s and 521 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely Hyundai Platinum, Global Gloryand Medi Hakata, carrying containers, tanker and clinkers respectively currently at the berths.

There were five vessels Northern Dedication, M T Shalmar, Fu Hai, Al Mahboobah and Hyundai Platinum currently at the berths.
