ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is to start registering citizens over 19 years of age and above for coronavirus vaccination from today (Thursday).

This was announced by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) Chairman, Asad Umar, here on Wednesday, in a tweet, saying the government has decided to open anti-Covid vaccination registration for all people aged 19 years and above from May 27.

He said, “In today's NCOC meeting, we decided to open up vaccination registration for all 19 years and above. This registration will start from tomorrow. So now registration will be open for the entire national population which is approved by health experts for Covid vaccination.”

Pakistan on May 16, opened registration for persons aged 30 and above.

Umar had explained that the government was opening up registrations for more age groups as Pakistan's vaccine supply continues to improve and the country's vaccination capacity gets enhanced day by day.

The country on May 3rd, opened registration for the coronavirus vaccination for people aged between 40 to 49 years across the country and subsequently, began walk-in vaccinations for people of the same age group.

Pakistan has launched a digital portal has for the registration through which a code is assigned to the person and then they can go to a designated vaccination centre and get a jab.

Meanwhile, the national Covid-19 positivity ratio Tuesday was recorded at 4.61 percent as the country conducted 59,076 tests of which 2,724 tested positive, while 65 coronavirus patients died and 4,684 patients recovered.

The NCOC said that at present, there are 60,268 total active Covid-19 cases in the country.

Health authorities carried out 59,076 Covid-19 tests across the country, including 18,132 in Sindh, 25,245 in Punjab, 7,859 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 4,961 in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 1,410 in Balochistan, 1,010 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and 459 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

A total of 12,943,620 corona tests have been conducted so far, while 639 hospitals are equipped with COVID facilities.

Some 4,654 corona patients were admitted in hospitals of which 4,242 are in critical care units (ICUs) across the country.

Out of 65 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, 58 were under treatment in hospitals of which 23 died on ventilators and seven at quarantines centres or homes.

Punjab and KP remained the most Covid-19 affected areas in the past 24 hours as Punjab recorded 36 deaths and KP reported 20 deaths.

Since the pandemic outbreak, Pakistan has detected a total of 908,576 Covid-19 cases including deaths, recoveries and under treatment Covid-19 patients.

Punjab with 336,135 cases is on top followed by Sindh with 311,776 cases, KP 130,644 cases, ICT 80,662 cases, Balochistan 24,733 cases, AJK 18,940 cases, and G-B 5,516 cases.

Of 20,465 deaths recorded nationwide, Punjab with 9,875 deaths is on top followed by Sindh with 4,942 deaths of which six deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, KP 3,990 deaths, ICT 748 deaths of which two deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, AJK with 532, Balochistan with 271 deaths of which one death was recorded in the past 24 hours, and G-B with 107 deaths.

Nationwide 517 ventilators were occupied while no Covid-affected person was on ventilator in AJK, the GB, and Balochistan.

Multan with 69 percent ventilator occupancy is on top followed by Lahore with 44 percent occupancy, Bahawalpur 38 percent, and Faisalabad 36 percent.

Multan with 57 percent occupancy of oxygen beds is on top followed by Gujranwala with 45 percent, Swabi 44 percent, and Peshawar 38 percent.
