ISLAMABAD: The country’s textile group exports have witnessed a decline of 6.75 percent in February 2021, standing at $1.234 billion compared to $1.323 billion during January 2021, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said.

The exports and imports data released by the PBS revealed that the textile group exports registered a decline of 3.12 percent on year-on-year basis as it reached $1.234 billion in February 2021 compared to $1.273 billion in February 2020.

Textile group exports registered 6.69 percent growth during the first eight months (July-February) 2020-21 and remained at $9.999 billion compared to $9.372 billion during the same period of last year.

Cotton yarn exports increased by 40.34 percent during February 2021 and remained at $120.259 million compared to $85.695 million during January 2021 and increased by 23.16 percent compared to $97.647 during the same month of last year.

Cotton yarn exports registered 17.73 percent decline during July-February 2020-21 and remained at $606.685 million compared to $737.417 million during the same period of last year.

Raw cotton exports remained zero during February 2021 and were also zero in January 2021. Raw cotton exports registered 96.47 percent decline during July-February 2020-21 and remained at $0.593 million compared to $16.797 million during the same period of last year.

Petroleum group imports witnessed a decline of 21.70 percent as it reached $6.445 billion during July-February 2020-21 compared to $8.232 billion during the same period of last year.

Petroleum group imports witnessed a decline of 26.89 percent as it reached $804.850 million in February 2021 compared to $1.1 billion during February 2020 and registered 7.41 percent negative growth compared to $869.290 million in January 2021.

Construction machinery imports has witnessed massive decline of 45.44 percent during the July-February 2020-21 and remained at $77.933 million compared to $142.852 million during the same period of last year.

Construction machinery imports witnessed also massive decline of 56.76 percent during February 2021 and remained $13.31 million compared to $30.785 million during February 2020 and registered over 28 percent growth compared to $10.328 million in January 2021.

The country’s exports during July–February, 2020-2021 totaled $ 16.324 billion (provisional) against $ 15.633 billion during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 4.42 percent.

The exports s in February, 2021 were $ 2.068 billion (provisional) as compared to $ 2.146 billion (provisional) in January, 2021 showing a decrease of 3.63 percent and by 3.23 percent as compared to $ 2.137 billion in February 2020.

The country’s imports during July–February, 2020-2021 totaled $33.897 billion (provisional) as against $ 31.483 billion during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 7.67 percent.

The imports in February, 2021 were $4.623 billion (provisional) as compared to $4.820 billion (provisional) in January, 2021 showing a decrease of 4.09 percent but increased by 10.92 percent as compared to $4.168 billion in February 2020.

The country’s trade deficit widened by 10.87 percent to $17.573 billion during July-February 2020-21 compared to $15.850 billion during the same period (July-February) of 2019-20.

Main commodities of exports during February, 2021 were knitwear (Rs 46.464 billion) registering 16.16 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and decreased by 10.85 percent compared to January 2021, readymade garments (Rs 37.945 billion), registering 12.28 percent decline when compared to the same period of last year and 16.25 percent decline when compared to January 2021, bed wear (Rs. 32.363 billion), registering 1.91 percent growth when compared to the same period of last year and 7.87 percent decline when compared to January 2021, cotton cloth (Rs. 23.705 billion) registering 18.79 percent decline when compared to the same period of last year and 2.19 percent decline when compared to January 2021, cotton yarn (Rs 19.137 billion) registering 27.05 percent growth when compared to the same period of last year and 39.44 percent growth when compared to January 2021, rice others (Rs 18.391 billion), registering 8.15 percent decline compared to the same period of last year and 2.99 percent decline when compared to January 2021, towels (Rs.12.329 billion), registering 0.55 percent decline compared to the same period of last year and 12.03 percent decline when compared to January 2021, basmati rice (Rs. 10.298 billion), registering 24.73 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and decline by 15.24 percent when compared to January 2021, made-up articles (excl. towels & bedwear) (Rs.9.406 billion) registering 0.32 percent growth when compared to the same period of last year and 13.24 percent decline compared to January 2021 and fruits (Rs. 8.433 billion) registering 15.11 percent decline when compared to the same period of last year and 18.08 percent decline compared to January 2021.

Main commodities of imports during February, 2021 were petroleum products (Rs. 53.679 billion) registering 44.74 percent decline when compared to the same period of last year and 12.03 percent decline compared to January 2021, natural gas, liquefied (Rs. 35.733 billion) registering 10.73 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and no increase or decrease was observed when compared to January 2021, Palm Oil (Rs. 34.619 billion), registering 23.63 percent increase compared to the same period of last year and 15,55 percent decline compared to January 2021, Petroleum crude (Rs.33.659 billion), registering 5.70 percent decline compared to the same period of last year and 4.23 percent decline compared to January 2021, Plastic Materials (Rs. 31.810 billion), registering 1.68 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and 10.83 percent decline compared to January 2021, Power generating machinery (Rs.31.569 billion), registering 44.11 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and 3.06 percent growth when compared to January 2021, mobile phone (Rs.27.979 billion), registering 73.42 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and 11.25 percent decline compared to January 2021, raw cotton (Rs.24.683 billion), registering 7.75 percent decline compared to the same period of last year and 15.81 percent decline compared to January 2021, Iron & Steel scrap (Rs. 23.709 billion) registering 16.64 percent growth compared to the same period of last year and 8.21 percent decline when compared to January 2021 and Electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs.23.366 billion) reasserting 6.62 percent growth when compared to the same period of last year and 3.53 percent negative growth when compared to January 2021.
