ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit, Islamabad has made huge detections of Rs 3.1 billion in key sectors including telecommunication, aircrafts and imports from Afghanistan and unearthed cases involving evasion of duties/taxes, mis-declarations, misuse of exemption certificates and under-valuations etc at the import stage.

It is learnt that the serious violations of the importers have been unearthed by Post Clearance Audit (PCA) of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to the performance report of the Directorate of Post Clearance Audit, the directorate has outperformed significantly both in terms of detecting evasion of duty/taxes and recoveries thereof during the last two financial years as compared to the proceeding years.

The report said that during the second and third quarters of the current financial year, the directorate has made phenomenal progress in detection and recovery of evaded duties and taxes. Resultantly an amount of 2178.77 million has been detected as evaded amount of duty/taxes by the Directorate. So far Rs.47.759 million has been recovered from various importers which is the highest amount of recoveries since its inception. It has been made possible as a result of proactive approach, regular follow-up of cases by the team of officers and staff of PCA (North) despite acute human resource & logistics constraints.

Based upon risk parameters, a number of sectors i.e. telecommunication sector, aircrafts, imports from Afghanistan based upon “Certificates of Origin” etc were identified and detections worth Rs3162.58 million were made by the Directorate, the report added.
