KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 158,956 tonnes of cargo comprising 129,088 tonnes of import cargo and 29,868 tonnes of export cargo including 6,845 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargos of 129,088 tonnes comprised of 28,925 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,448 tonnes of bulk cargo; 24,196 tonnes of wheat; 13,341 tonnes of petcoke; 1,933 tonnes of soyabean and 52,245 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 29,868 tonnes comprised of 25,486 tonnes of containerised cargo; 110 tonnes of bulk cargo and 4,272 tonnes of iron powder.

As many as 6,845 containers comprising of 2,354 containers import and 4,491 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 694 of 20's and 631 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 199 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 566 of 20's and 389 of 40's loaded containers while 1,249 of 20's and 949 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were four ships namely CMA CGM Orfeo, MSC Chiara, Safeen Oryx and PAC Athena carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. CMA CGM Racine, Safeen Oryx, Diyala, Ital Lirica, Chemtrans Adriatic and Star Hydrus carrying containers, mogas and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely CMA CGM Racine, Greenwich Bridge, RDO Fortune and Chemtrans Adriatic carrying containers and mogas respectively expected to sail on Tuesday.

There are two vessels viz. Paris Express and Blue Balesier carrying containers and DAP respectively due to arrive on Tuesday while ten vessels viz. Wan Hai-611, Ever Ursula, Vancouver, Ulanga, Hyundai Colombo, MT Quetta, Chem Venus, Green Belt, Da Ji and Silvia Ambition carrying containers, tanker, chemical, white spirit and general cargo respectively are expected to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 126,543 tonnes comprising 90,017 tonnes of import cargo and 36,529 tonnes of export cargo including 2,155 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 90,017 tonnes includes 30,154 tonnes of coal; 807 tonnes of LPG; 10,797 tonnes of gas oil; 13,500 tonnes of palm oil; 11,040 tonnes of wheat; 7,493 tonnes of steel coil and 16,226 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 36,529 tonnes includes 11,810 tonnes of talcum powder and 24,719 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,155 containers comprising of 854 containers import and 1,301 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

There was one ship namely Maud carrying coal sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while five ships namely MSC Chiara, Jin Tao, Venture Goal, Damas and As Orelia carrying containers, steel coil, coal, mogas and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eleven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, steel coil, talcum powder, coal, wheat, LPG, LNG and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as thirteen vessels viz. Asphalt Express, Bao Run, Western Oslo, VSC Poseidon, African Cheetah, Gas Zeus, Gas, Arma, Al-Aamiriya, Eva Usuki, Elenore, Silver Esther, Chemroad Rose and Silver Dubai carrying bitumen, coal, cement, wheat, LNG, LPG and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were seven ships viz. MSC Lucy, Maersk Sentosa, Asphalt Express, EM Emerald, Gas Arma, Al-Aamriya and Eva Usuki carrying containers, bitumen, chemical, LNG, LPG and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, Engro Elengy Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday.

There were three ship namely ER Tianshan, MSC Lucy and Maersk Sentosa carrying containers due to arrive on Tuesday while another ships namely EM Emerald carrying chemical is due to arrive on Wednesday.
