KARACHI: Imran Moiz Khan, acting president of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), has demanded of the managing director of the Water Board to meet the water demands of industries and make proper arrangements for uninterrupted water supply.

While expressing reservations over unavailability of water for the industries, he said the export orders would be jeopardized.

Imran Moiz Khan said that water is an important resource for the continuation of industrial production, especially in textile, towels, dyeing, bleaching, stitching and some other industrial units.

Therefore, if the supply of abundant water to these industries is not restored immediately, the industrialists will face huge production losses.

“After the recent torrential rains, the dams have been filled with water and the Hub dam has been recorded at its highest level. Despite this, not providing water to Karachi’s industries is a matter of grave concern,” he added. He said that when there was a shortage of water before the rains, the industrialists arranged water on their own and continued the production process by obtaining water through private tankers.

Although buying water from tankers increased the cost of production, yet the industrialists bore the financial losses in the best economic interests of the country.
