Shah Mahmood Qureshi tests positive for coronavirus

  • Foreign minister says he quarantined himself after suffering from mild fever

(Karachi) Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has tested positive for coronavirus on Friday.

In a tweet, the FM said that he quarantined himself after suffering from mild fever. "This afternoon I felt a slight fever and immediately quarantined myself at home. I have now tested positive for Covid 19," he stated.

Qureshi said that he felt strong and energetic and would continue to perform his duties from home. He urged the people to remember him in their prayers.

Earlier, a total of 97 politicians, including 86 lawmakers from the country’s national and provincial assemblies, tested virus positive while six lost their lives since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Pakistan.

The politicians who tested positive belong to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and various other political parties.

In addition, 30 lawmakers and politicians from various other political parties have also tested positive. These include the religious-politico party Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F), and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM), Awani National Party (ANP), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Muttahida Majlis–e–Amal (MMA), Awami Muslim League, Balochistan National Party (BNP), and independent legislators.
