Fakhar for evolving mechanism to address issues of farmering community

ISLAMABAD: Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam on Thursday stressed the need for evolving a proper mechanism in consultation with provincial governments to resolve the problems faced by the farmers on priority basis.

He said this while chairing a meeting about subsidy on agriculture tubewell, says a press release issued here today.

He also directed for finalizing the records of tube wells, land ownership and finalizing the recommendation on urgent basis to implement the scheme.

Speakingon the occasion Secretary Ministry of National Food Security and Research,Omar Hamid Khan recommended the installation of solar tube wells.

Prime Minister had directed Ministry of National Food Security and Research that a mechanism should be formulated in consultation with the provinces regarding proposals for provision of power subsidy on tubewells, so that small farmers could be provided with relief.

Economic Consultant, Dr. Talpur briefed that 80% cultivated area is irrigated by various sources, 95% of fresh water is used for irrigation purpose.

While 50% ground water is used for irrigation. Whereas average annual ground water potential is 55MAF and annual abstraction is 51 MAF through 1.39 billion tube wells.

In 2019,flate rate of Rs .5.35 per unit was applied on tube wells. Secretary Power Division, Umar Rasool also suggested the targeted tube well subsidy.

He added that Power Division has obtained details of tube well loads and residential addresses of tube well holders.
