Govt launches Rs208bn relief programme to mitigate sufferings of poor: Murad

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Communications Murad Saeed Monday said the government had launched Ehsaas Cash Transfer Programme of Rs. 208 billion to distribute money among the poor people of the country.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said seven million Insaf Sehat Cards were distributed among the people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and other areas of the country.

The relief package of Rs. 1,200 billion was distributed among the vulnerable sections of the society in a bid to cope with the coronavirus pandemic's financial impacts on them, he added.

He quoted Prime Minister Imran Khan as saying that Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz were two sides of the same coin and involved in a fix fight.

He said the initiative of smart lockdown introduced by Prime Minister Imran Khan was highly appreciated by international media including Bloomberg and Gulf News and now the world was observing it to save its economy.

He said Pakistan International Airlines and Pakistan Steel Mills were in profit during the Pervez Musharraf's era but later on, the two profit-oriented entities went into loss during the government of Pakistan Peoples Party. He challenged Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to hold a debate with him on economic and political issues.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan, at the most significant forum of the world - United Nations - raised the issue of Islamophobia and addressed the case of Islam and Pakistan adequately.
