Civil society playing pivotal role in democracy

SIALKOT: Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said that civil society had been playing a pivotal role in democracy and protection of human rights in the country.

He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Council for Social Welfare and Human Rights (PCSWHR) which called on him at his Chamber in the Parliament, Islamabad.

Sialkot based Chairman PCSWHR Muhammad Ejaz Noori led the delegation, said a PCSWHR press release issued here Monday. The Chairman Senate stressed the need for establishing strong mutual contacts between the civil society, political parties and the parliament as it had become the demand of the day, it added.

He said that durable peace was vital for national development and prosperity and promotion of Pakistan, saying that protection of human rights, democracy and democratic norms and values was also very much important for sustainable peace.

On this occasion, Chairman PCSWHR Muhammad Ejaz Noori greeted the Chairman Senate for establishment of Dastoor Galli and Parliament Museum, saying that both the Dastoor Galli and Parliament Museum would be helpful in highlighting the political struggles and sacrifices of our national politicians among the young generations.
