The General Secretary of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA), Engr Zakir Ali Khan has advised people in general and youth in particular to have clear objectives of life as this would not only generate commitment but also help them accomplish their goals.
He was speaking at a reception organised by the Literary Committee of Karachi Club, in recognition of Sir Syed International Award for Literature-2008 conferred on Zakir Ali Khan by Aligarh Muslim University, India. The reception was chaired by noted intellectual Ubaidullah Baig and was also addressed by Zahida Hina, Khawaja Razi Haider and President Literary Committee of Karacchi Club, Abdul Wahid Shaikh.
Zakir Ali Khan said that it was the farsightedness of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan due to which the Muslims of the sub-continent could realise significance of modern knowledge and also help themselves earn fame in different fields of it.
He pointed out that objective of gaining knowledge cannot be accomplished unless culture and decency are promoted in the society. It is, therefore, imperative that besides acquisition of knowledge these values are augmented and we are counted amongst civilised nations of the world.
Earlier, paying tributes to the personality and services of Zakir Ali Khan, noted researcher Khawaja Razi Haider said that he had set an example with reference to his practical efforts for the attainment of objectives of life. We can achieve successes at personal level and in the national life by emulating him as a role model, he said. Prominent writer Zahida Hina said that she gets a new spirit and vigour by following the footsteps of Zakir Ali Khan.
Ubaidullah Baig refreshed his memoirs with reference to Rampur, the birthplace of Zakir Ali Khan and said he is a thorough gentleman and such people serve as a source of pride and honour in any society. Earlier Chairman Literary Committee of Karachi Club, Abdul Wahid Shaikh welcomed Zakir Ali Khan. Among others, the reception was also attended by Z A Nizami, President AMUOBA and Chancellor Sir Syed University, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Syed Nazir Ahmed and a large numbmer of intellectuals and notables.
